Welcome! Thank you for your interest in the elementary school here at CDS - the First Program. The admissions process, dates, requirements vary slightly among the three divisions/schools within CDS, so the aim of this page is to is to provide you with supplemental information needed to successfully apply to becoming part of our First Program community.
If you wish to visit the school to ask questions or receive a school tour, please make an appointment (ext. 109) and we will try our best to meet your request.
Please understand that we are selective when admitting new students, and factors such as current class sizes and learning support needs can further affect availability of space.

Applications Dates
If you wish to apply for Term 1, 2019/2020 - please complete the application process by May 21, 2019.

We have rolling admissions meaning students may apply to join us throughout the school year. CDS has five terms, and First Program students may begin at the onset of any term, but it is highly recommended to attend from the beginning of the school year.

Applications that are completed, fifteen school days prior to the term in which you wish to join, will be considered:
2018/2019
Term 1 - complete the application process fifteen school days prior to the beginning of Term 1, i.e. May 22, 2018 (fifteen school days before the end of Term 5, before summer break)
*Requests for interviews after the deadline (e.g. during summer break) can be considered for grades 1-4, but note that emphasis will be placed on achieving high scores on MAP tests.
Term 2 - complete the application process fifteen school days prior to the beginning of Term 2, i.e. Sep. 21, 2018
Term 3 - complete the application process fifteen school days prior to the beginning of Term 3, i.e. Nov. 26, 2018 (fifteen school days before the end of Term 2; before winter break)

Learning Support: Special Needs & English Language Learners (ELL)
A special needs student is described by CDS as one who requires assistance for disabilities that may be medical, physical, or psychological.
Determination of the school’s ability to meet the needs of the student – to function in the mainstream classroom – will be based on one or more of the following:
Parents may be requested to provide documentation of diagnostic assessment results obtained from consultations with a qualified educational psychologist.

Standardized Test Results
The MAP test is an assessment that allows us to measure the applicant against norms and against our current students. It is part of the comprehensive process that is used to determine a student’s acceptance.
The application process can be significantly expedited if standardized test results, i.e. MAP test results, can be submitted.
